The GBS Companion

Note: the Companion is currently written in Dutch. An English version is planned. The medical content translates readily, and most AI assistants will happily work through it in English if you ask them to.

What it does

When you are in a hospital bed you get results you do not understand and ten-minute conversations you only half remember. This file gives an AI assistant the knowledge to help you with that.

  • Read your results. What was measured in your lumbar puncture, what your nerve conduction report means, and why a normal result in the first week rules nothing out
  • Track your scores. The MRC sum score, the 0 to 6 disability scale, and the prognostic models developed in Rotterdam
  • Count relapses. Build a timeline, and work out what the number of relapses and the number of weeks mean for whether this is still ordinary GBS
  • Prepare your appointment. Turn a vague worry into a concrete question that ends up in your notes
  • Keep a daily log. What to record, and why it is the strongest card you hold

What it never does

These limits are built into the file itself, and they hold even if you ask.

  • No diagnosing
  • No declaring a result normal or abnormal
  • No recommending or dosing treatment
  • Never advising you to refuse, stop or delay a treatment
  • No guessing when it does not know

It does not stand between you and your doctor. It makes sure you arrive prepared.

How to use it

In Claude

  1. Download the zip and unpack it
  2. Create a new Project
  3. Upload the gbs-companion folder to the project knowledge
  4. Ask your question inside that project

In ChatGPT

  1. Download the zip and unpack it
  2. Open SKILL.md and paste its contents into the instructions of a new GPT
  3. Upload the files from the references folder as knowledge files

Without setting anything up

It also works in a plain conversation: upload the files and tell the assistant to follow the instructions in SKILL.md. Less reliable, but it works.

Everything is plain text. You can read it, change it and pass it on. There is no code in it and nothing is sent back to me.
